About Zwin Nature Park

Zwin Nature Park

Zwin Nature Park is a cross-border nature reserve, straddling the border between Belgium and the Netherlands. The park is situated near the North Sea coast and covers approximately 370 acres, serving as a critical habitat for migratory birds and diverse wildlife. The area was once an inlet of the sea but has transformed into a diverse salt marsh landscape due to natural sedimentation and human interventions. Visitors can explore the various ecosystems, including tidal marshes, mudflats, and dunes, which are home to a rich variety of bird species such as avocets, oystercatchers, and spoonbills. The park also features educational trails and bird-watching huts to enhance the visitor experience. Historically, the Zwin area was an important medieval trade route and harbor, which adds an element of historical significance to its natural beauty. Recreation opportunities include hiking and bird watching, and there are interactive exhibits in the visitor center that provide insights into the ecology and history of the park.
